Meet Coach Cece.
Cece is a self-proclaimed nerd, who enjoys reading research articles, taking continuing education courses, writing, and listening to all sorts of audiobooks. She also enjoys gardening, cooking, exercising, and getting out into nature, though her greatest joy is her family. Cece has worked in health and wellness for over 20 years, teaching group exercise classes, working as a health coach and personal trainer, and working in both mental health and physical health as an occupational therapist. She is a certified exercise physiologist, yoga instructor, health coach, and occupational therapist. She believes strongly in the mind body connection, and the release of emotions and trauma to provide healing and overall health and wellbeing.
Cece values spending quality time with family, and the freedom to live a life that is not so modern, with a gentle nod to the ancestors. I.e. she is not a fan of the 9-5 work model, kids spending more of their waking hours at school than at home with their families, and the toxic assault of stress and chemicals faced every day by the average human. She believes in keeping a little garden for food, knowing how to be handy around the home, using old remedies that have stood the test of time for managing simple ailments (while leaving the other stuff to the doctor), preparing healthy meals at home, and having a strong community of loved ones around to provide support and build a wall of protection around little ones.
Cece sees a world where education embraces the individuality and creativity of each child, companies are held to standards of quality that promote the health of both the people and the planet, families are encouraged to be together instead of chasing money and achievements, and medical care is focused on prevention and health promotion as opposed to disease management.
Cece’s parenting style is conscious, attachment parenting. She is recovering from the old school model of parenting, and doing her best to not say all of the things…”I’m not one of your little friends,” “I brought you into this world and I’ll take you out…” She is a strong believer in therapy for individuals, couples, and children, and believes that, though people of color have a lot of healing and unlearning to do (let’s face it, slavery and racism have permeated society for a number of years, even negatively affecting our own behavior and self-image), they are capable of overcoming every obstacle. She is excited to share her knowledge and journey in health and wellness with anyone who is ready to explore a different way of living.
Meet Dr. Sarah.
Hey, hey!! I’m Dr. Sarah. I’m a naturopathic doctor, herbalist, wife, & mommy x 2. One of my biggest goals in life is to decolonize holistic medicine and help get Black people across the Diaspora re-acquainted with our birth right…natural medicine.
I’m Dr. Sarah and I’m the founder of Ellis Family Wellness. I show health-conscious people how to take care of their bodies, heal themselves naturally, and prevent diseases. I truly believe in the healing power of nature and, that as a Black American, I descend from healers who sustained the health of our ancestors during horrific and brutal times with what God provided them with in plants & spiritual medicine. While I love being a “holistic doctor” I don’t want you to just come see me when you aren’t feeling well. I want you to feel knowledgeable and confident in your ability to take care of yourself and your family with natural remedies. And the only way that I can do that is to teach you how! So mamas…welcome to our holistic living family! I cannot tell you how excited I am to support you, and teach you, and help you be the best for yourselves and your families!
I graduated from Bastyr University where I studied naturopathic medicine. I’m a true believer in the idea that the body is capable of healing itself… as long as you’re good to it. So, ultimately, you can say I teach people (especially women) how to be good to themselves.

Our Approach
We created The Holistic Brown Mamas… because we are nerdy, curious, and crunchy mamas who were desperate to know more about the natural and effective ways to protect our families during the “Pandemmy”. Our search for reliable holistic medicine information put a spotlight on a big gap in the holistic health care arena. Not only was there a lack in the presence of women and people of color but it was SO HARD to separate truth from fiction. To separate conspiracy theories from data that is backed by both rigorous science and anecdotes. Suddenly, everyone and their mama was a health expert!
What we have also noticed is that other than Ayurveda, holistic techniques from black and brown cultures don't get much of a spotlight. Our mission at THBM is to highlight the rich history of holistic methods used by people of color throughout the world (Gullah Geechee, African, African American, Native American, South American, etc.).
Our goal is to provide you all with the knowledge, resources, and guidance to make educated and sound health decisions for your family. We want you to feel confident and empowered when you choose to heal your family with healthy food, herbs, movement, etc. Welcome to the family and we look forward to supporting your journey to more holistic living!
